Memphis Made Brewing Co. is pulling out all the stops for its sixth annual MALTED festival.
This year’s event is on Saturday, Nov. 9 with malty beers, chocolate, coffee, comedy, bands, ballet and more.
There are limited edition malty beers being released all day, including collaborations such as Stout Junt, a beer developed with Philip Ashley Chocolates.
Memphis Made has worked with multiple local organizations and businesses in its six years of existence and these collaborations are an extension of that.
“Working with other producers who are as passionate about their products as we are about ours made these collaborations fun and exciting for me,” Drew Barton, Memphis Made’s Head Brewer, said.
Stout Junt is brewed with cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, cloves, cinnamon, and chili peppers. There will be a limited number of 750-milliliter bombers available for sale in the taproom only.
“I’ve always been a fan of what the crew at Memphis Made creates,” Ashley said. “When the opportunity arose to develop something special together, I was excited and ready to get to work! This combination of beer, chocolate, and spice is a truly unique representation of the kind of craftsmanship Memphis harnesses.”
Memphis Made will also unveil Memphis As Truck, a coffee stout brewed with French Truck Coffee. The coffee is Kossa Geshe, a naturally processed coffee with notes of strawberries and cream, milk chocolate, and marshmallow.
French Truck Coffee’s Head Roaster, Danny Shearer, will be on-site to pass out cold-brewed samples of the coffee. He will also be able to field questions about the coffee and the roasting process.
“This is our third year working with this farmer, Abdul Wahid,” Jeff Pates, Sales Director of French Truck’s Crosstown location, said. “Abdul is committed not only improving his coffee growing and processing methods, but also the lives of his employees through building employee housing on the farm and schools in nearby towns. French Truck is a committed buyer of Abdul’s coffee which allows for him to continue to improve his standards and the community he lives in.”
MALTED will also debut new gear, a MEMPHIS AS TRUCK shirt designed by Dirty Cotton T-Shirt Company.
In addition to these collaborations, there will be Nut Remix, Drew’s Day Off, Orange Drewlius and more.
The doors open at 1 p.m., with the first 100 customers getting a free 16-ounce MALTED glass.
New Ballet Ensemble will perform parts of Nut Remix, a modern reinvention of Tchaikovsky’s classic Nutcracker, at 2:30 p.m. They will also be doing a ticket giveaway.
Cassette Set will start playing at 3 p.m., followed by Relentless Breeze at 5 p.m.
Comma Comedians will close out the day with stand up comedy starting at 7:30 p.m.
Grub will be the food truck on-site.
