The National Pediatric Cancer Foundation (NPCF) invites you to celebrate the launch of Brewing Funds the Cure (BFTC) benefiting The National Pediatric Cancer Foundation!

Brewing Funds the Cure brings the passion and creativity from the craft brewing industry to join forces with NPCF in raising critical funds for pediatric cancer research. Any and every brewery or industry supplier/partner can be a part of Brewing Funds the Cure by brewing our exclusive signature brew, Rising Hope, to hosting giveback nights and events at your location, to donating a percent of proceeds from products and/or merchandise you sell, and much more!

BFTC was crafted in 2017 in Tampa, Florida, when two breweries, Cigar City Brewing and Brew Bus Brewing, collaborated to help raise awareness for the need of more pediatric cancer research. Each brewery hosted fundraisers in their taprooms and donated the proceeds to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. In 2017, the idea of creating an exclusive signature brew of beer to promote awareness and raise funds for pediatric cancer research began to take shape and was born! By encouraging suppliers and vendors to donate ingredients, costs remained low, which enabled a greater percentage of proceeds from the sale of Rising Hope to be donated to help save the lives of children battling cancer. That year, over $30,000 was raised!

In 2018, five additional breweries from across the country (from New England to Hawaii) created their version of Rising Hope and implemented other unique ways to generate proceeds through events and givebacks.

In 2019, the NPCF is proud to announce a program to engage the entire brew community by challenging all to be a part of Brewing Funds the Cure. The partnership is as simple as pledging to donate or raise $100. Every partner will receive an exclusive Brewing Funds the Cure poster to display proudly at their establishment as well as other recognition materials depending on the level of your establishment’s involvement. As a brewery or organization, you can decide what works best for you to create giveback opportunities. Some ideas include a round-up at the register, proceeds from an event, percentage of sales, designating a giveback beer or creating a giveback beer. We can assist and will have resources available for marketing, so if you would like some ideas, just ask!

“The program was crafted to use the creativity of the brewing industry to fund cancer research for children. We want all breweries and industry partners to get involved at whatever level they choose so we can continually grow this program. Even with as little as a $100 pledge to raise funds for NPCF, the brewery or company will become an official partner,” says Chris Geib, Corporate Development at National Pediatric Cancer Foundation and Director of Brewing Funds the Cure. “The goal of breweries in holding events is always getting more patrons; and by working with non-profits like ours, they’re not only drawing customers, but they’re also doing something that matters and gives back to programs like cancer research initiatives that need funding. We, as an organization, are reaching a broader audience by partnering with them, so it’s a win-win for everyone.”

Through the efforts and donations from the Country Malt Group; Yakima Hops; Oregon Fruit; and, of course, Cigar City Brewing and Brew Bus, a standard recipe for Rising Hope has been developed for 2019! Created for both draught and cans, Rising Hope will be served and distributed through our exclusive partners in all 50 states! Participating breweries will be releasing Rising Hope in September, which is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. All Rising Hope Breweries and Brewing Funds the Cure Partners will continually be updated on our virtual map at www.brewingfundsthecure.org.

Why is this important?

  • Cancer is the #1 cause of death by disease among children.
  • 43 children per day are expected to be diagnosed with cancer.
  • Only 4% of the billions of dollars that are spent annually on cancer research and treatments are directed
towards treating childhood cancer.
  • More than 95% of those who survive childhood cancer will have a significant health-related issue by the time
they are 45 as a result of being treated with drugs designed for adults.
